Interview with Eunmi Shin
1. Please introduce yourself.
Hello, my name is Shin Eun-mi, and I am a Maya artist who completed the VFX program.
2. What inspired you to become interested in computer graphics?
As an art major, I felt that computer graphics offered limitless possibilities for creative expression. Taking graphics classes naturally sparked my interest in the field. When I realized that computer graphics could bring to life things that were impossible to draw by hand, I became increasingly fascinated by its potential. That's when I decided I wanted to pursue this career.
3. Do you have any personal tips or techniques for working in CG?
I wouldn't say I have any special techniques yet—there's still so much for me to learn. However, whenever I feel overwhelmed or experience creative burnout, I try exploring a new area of computer graphics. Challenging myself with something different helps me stay motivated and keeps me from giving up.
4. What are your future plans?
I don't believe computer graphics is the only thing that defines my life. Even though it's what I've studied and continue to learn, life would be boring if that were all there was. For now, though, I want to keep learning and push myself to explore every aspect of CG, discovering its endless possibilities along the way. I'm still young, so I have plenty of time to grow.
5. Do you have any memorable experiences from your training or projects?
There were countless memorable moments. If I had to sum them up in one phrase, it would be "a roller coaster of emotions." We experienced joy, frustration, excitement, and challenges together, and those shared experiences made the journey truly meaningful.
6. Could you tell us about one of your personal projects?
The most challenging part of my project was working on cloth simulation. It was incredibly slow and difficult to manage, and there were many moments when I wanted to give up. Although the project is still unfinished, it was the first major piece I started, so I want to see it through to the end, no matter how long it takes.
7. How many hours do you usually spend working each day?
I usually spend around 6 to 8 hours working, especially when staying late at school. At home, however, it's much harder to stay focused. Even if I work for just one or two hours at home, it feels like a lot. I know I shouldn't be as lazy as I sometimes am!
8. Please introduce your company and your current role.
I work at Visual Story, a company specializing in corporate identity (CI), brand identity (BI), and web design. My role will mainly involve planning and design-related work, although I'll have a better understanding of my responsibilities once I gain more hands-on experience.
9. What advice would you give to students at SF Film School?
Whenever things get difficult, don't immediately think, "Maybe this isn't the right path for me." If you realize you've taken the wrong road, you can always turn back. And if there isn't a path, you can create one yourself. That's exactly what I did. There were many times when I doubted myself, but by creating new opportunities, I eventually found my own direction. No matter how challenging this field may be, keep believing in yourself and never stop moving forward. Wishing everyone the very best!
10. Why did you choose SF Film School, and what do you think is its greatest strength?
The biggest strength of SF Film School is its sense of community. Everyone learns and grows together. The atmosphere is neither too strict nor too relaxed, creating a healthy environment where students can motivate and challenge one another. That balance makes learning both enjoyable and rewarding.
We'd love to welcome you to SF Film School!
