Impressions of

successful applicants

SFFSLAB supports students in every step of the job recruitment in North America.

SF Film School won seventh place in the Rookies awards. Although it is a great accomplishment by itself, our academy will continue to work hard with our students to eventually win the first place of the awards.

Multiple international awards under the name of the SF Film School have proved that the quality of our work and public confidence of our academy is

not only recognized in Korea, but in the whole world. One of our students recently won first place in the Chaosgroup rendering hallenge, but our academy will always look forward and work hard to achieve higher accomplishment.

“SF Film School was a strong ray of light for me in the pitch-black darkness.”

I decided to go to an academy and searched for several academies, but I felt that other academies were overly commercial and that they would teach mechanically and passively. On the other hand, SF Film School gave me the impression that they would teach systematically and accurately, as I could see the detailed portfolio and curriculum of the small group on the website. However, I was worried that I couldn't trust the opinions on the website 100%, but after visiting the academy in person and consulting with the dean and hearing his honest words, I was convinced that I really wanted to go there. I've always been interested in 3D graphics in the film and game fields, and I like showing my creations to others and hearing their thoughts on them, so I've used games as a hobby to create videos and used basic 3D tools to create 3D models to put in games. However, I was hesitant about actually learning it and making it my future career. I wanted to start, but I didn't know where to start, and I was scared because it felt so vague. However, I got an opportunity to work as an intern at a foreign game company because of the video I made for the game, and later through that connection, I got to work at a domestic game company as a planner, and while actually seeing and hearing the work of the company's graphic staff, I became certain that this field of creating visuals out of nothing was really the field I wanted to be in. In particular, seeing someone who had transferred to the company as a new 3D animator at a fairly young age and was working really diligently and happily made me wonder what I was hesitating for, and that's why I decided to apply. In fact, I have a greedy personality that wants to try anything, so I wish I could learn all the courses, but I know very well that it's impossible in reality, so I want to start by learning the 3D animation course that interests me the most, step by step.

“I think what really captured my heart was the fact that everyone was like family after coming to the group system.”

I got to know about several schools through an acquaintance's introduction, so I was looking into it. However, my cousin recommended SF Film School, and I immediately looked it up on the Internet. And I made my decision right away. First of all, I think the high-quality portfolio, the fact that there were few students, and the fact that the students came in as a group and got along like family really caught my attention. Also, the curriculum itself was one of the reasons I chose SF Film School. There was a drawing class in the curriculum, and although I am not very good at drawing, I thought that drawing was really important, so I had always wanted to learn drawing properly. While looking at the curriculum, I saw a drawing class and decided to choose SF Film School. My first impression of the school was that it was very quiet. Maybe because there were only a few students, the school itself was very quiet and refreshing. And I think I felt the professionalism and passion of the school itself. I could feel the passion of the teachers as well as the many business cards, movie posters, portfolios, videos, and students. When I first visited the academy, I had an interview with the dean. In fact, I was very nervous during the interview, but the more I listened to the dean, the more I felt like I wanted to go to this academy. I am lacking in many ways, so I want to learn from the basics. I will work hard.

“Being able to experience the entire life cycle of special effects.”

I have always felt that in order to create creative computer graphic images, I need to study not only computers but also art. I thought that simply learning graphic tools would be like learning only the surface and that there would be no inspiration in the work. I think that you need to build a solid foundation to create great images that are close to real life. For example, when expressing a person walking, the movement of joints, or important elements in expressing the human body, should not be learned by simply learning tools. Then, I learned about SF Film School and first came across it through the website. After looking at the curriculum, I felt that SF Film School would be able to satisfy the elements that I wanted to learn as mentioned earlier. When I first visited the main office for consultation, I felt that it was a school that really specialized in one field, and I thought that I wanted to really burn my dream here. After that, I looked into other schools for a year, but there was no school that specialized in VFX/SF or discussed the intensive topic of movie special effects as much as SF Film School. Moreover, I think the reason I had to choose SF Film School over other schools was because I could experience the entire life cycle of special effects. Considering that I have no basic knowledge of CG, I hope that they teach me in detail so that even a beginner can follow along.

"I thought it was amazing after seeing the portfolio that looked like something out of a real movie."

After looking into a few academies and consulting with them, I realized that many places that provide education focus more on business than education. There was no place that explained in detail what people who wanted to learn wanted, whether the education was related to actual practice, how employment was done later, what kind of work the instructors did and what they are doing now. I decided that the education that focused on rote learning and recruiting students, rather than education that people could understand, was not suitable for someone who wanted to give up their main job and challenge a new field, and I was convinced that I would not be able to develop practical skills in just 3 or 5 months at an academy that provided education like that. Then I found out about SF Film School and saw the portfolios that students would have seen in actual movies, and I thought it was amazing. I felt that the academy had established a system for students to be selected by the academy so that they could produce portfolios, and I was even more determined to apply because I felt that it was an academy for students who make continuous efforts. After studying graphic design for about 4 years, I felt that what I could implement on paper was now reaching its limit. Things that I simply thought were part of the future are now being seen, used, and felt in real life, and the world is changing little by little, and I began to doubt whether what I was doing now had a vision for the future. Then, after watching the movies Chronicles of Narnia and Transformers, I started to think about working in Visual Graphics, and after that, as more and more gorgeous and realistic videos were released, I decided to challenge myself in my life and solidified my determination. I would like to ask for your direct criticism and interest so that I do not regret choosing SF Film School as a turning point in my 29-year-old life.

"I felt like I wanted to become a student at SF Film School and join them."

At first, I got to know about it through a friend’s introduction, but after that, after looking at the information and portfolios on the website, I also wanted to become a student at SF Film School and join them. What I liked the most was that, unlike other academies, they operate with a small number of students in a batch system. The reason is that I know that the video field is definitely not easy, so I thought that it would be an environment where we could help each other and support each other when we were having a hard time or getting tired. I graduated from high school with a degree in computer graphics and later went on to major in design at university. At first, I was interested in 3D magazine or newspaper advertisements, so I wanted to create the ideas that came to my mind and build a rapport with people around me with those ideas. Since I had a lot of thoughts since I was young, I thought it would be good to focus those random thoughts on one idea, advertising ideas. The reason I chose this field is that I still want to extract the images or videos that come to my mind, even if they are unrealistic, so that I can see them in reality. Another reason is that I thought that there would be limitations in analog. I want to study hard, get a job at a good company, and become a talented person who creates great videos. Please take care of me.

“SF films were a powerful ray of light that came down to me in the pitch-black darkness.”

I wasn't interested in VFX from the beginning. I majored in broadcasting and video in college. So I did a lot of filming, editing, and making videos, and I think I have some experience. We worked together in groups a lot, and what I realized was that most students were more interested in cool-looking broadcasting equipment or programs like After Effects that gave effects than in the content of the videos, and they were so caught up in the flashy screens that they would just film roughly and then do something later. When I was a third year in college, I majored in broadcasting and changed my career to film. There was only one reason. So I worked in the production department of a feature film, in the directing department, and in several short films. And then I got to this point. SF Film School was a ray of light that came down to me in the dark. For a week after that, I clicked countless times every day, seriously and earnestly read all the contents of the website from beginning to end, and started watching the works of SF Film School seniors. I have no idea about VFX. I felt like it was fate that came to me, who was wandering around, searching, asking, and passionately wanting to become a better me, not knowing what a mother was. Not only the curriculum, but also the fact that it wasn't a typical academy that would accept you if you paid money unconditionally and focused on exchanging tools like programs, but it was also very thrilling that there were a small number of elite 'classmates' who had the same goal and would sincerely work hard together. I felt that the talent that SF Film School was pursuing was not a technician who was skilled in different technologies, but a creative, high-level human resource. After I learned about SF Film School, my life was almost paralyzed for a week. After talking to many acquaintances (people who work in the film industry, friends, classmates who work in the film industry) and having many conversations, I became very certain that I would spend the last days of my youth in my 20s here. I had a rough idea of what the Visual Graphic field was like since I was a freshman in college and attended the OBA held at COEX every year. I thought that learning about this field would allow me to realize my imagination in a broader way, and I felt that it was a field that fit my dream of becoming a creative, high-level human resource, not just a technician. I realized that I was just one of many people who had no special talent in the field of directing and production, who vaguely wanted to make movies, and that I ultimately knew nothing about it. I will work hard to excel with the skills required here.

"I thought there would be a wide range of fields to study and that I would be able to learn professionally."

I really wanted to go there after seeing the activity history photos and works on the homepage. I thought that there would be a wider range of areas to study and that I would be able to learn professionally compared to other academies. After finding out about this academy, I didn't even look at other academies. I chose the college path while watching various videos and wondering, 'How are these things made?' And I first encountered programs called After Effects and Maya through school classes. I became interested in working on changing shapes and properties with just one tool. Those classes were so much fun for me. That's why I want to learn more about this field and know more. I think this work is also art. I wasn't born with artistic sense, but I want to learn more about it.

“My eyes grew wide when I saw the SF Film School student’s portfolio.”

Before I knew about SF Film School, I first learned about other academies in Gangnam. Then I went there for a consultation. However, I was determined to put my all into this field, but during the consultation, I was not sure about this academy. Now that I have to go out into society and live based on what I learned at the academy, I am not sure if it is because I am observing and thinking sensitively, but it felt like an academy where you just have to get paid and follow a set curriculum, not a place to learn. And I am now in my late 20s, and I was worried that I would be wasting my time learning poorly here. Then I found a website called SF Film School, and at first I thought it would be similar to other academies.. I looked through it carefully, but it was different from other academies. My eyes widened when I saw the systematic classes, small class size, and portfolios of SF Film School students. Also, more than anything, the fact that it is a CG specialized academy and the student-centered education system with a class system captured my heart. So I carefully looked through the bottom menu of the SF Film School homepage and read and read again. And I think the special seminar and the research center cafe are really the best. In my opinion, since the IT field is developing rapidly, if you don’t learn new things, you will be eliminated. In that sense, I was convinced that the research center cafe alone is incomparable to any other academy. That’s why I ultimately chose SF Film School. I visited today and met with the dean, and I really felt it. Pride, self-esteem, and self-respect for SF Film School. I want to be a proud student who doesn’t go against that. Since I have no experience in this area, I’m a little worried about whether I can follow along well. I hope you can teach me in detail step by step. Please take care of me.

“Looking at the portfolio, I realized that I could learn what I wanted at this academy…”

The reason I chose SF Film School is because I thought it was the only VFX school in Korea. Most other schools focus on teaching tools and have students follow the book. I also attended MAX School for two months last summer, and learned tools by following examples. The original plan was to learn about character mapping and animation in the curriculum, but I couldn’t learn modeling properly. That school advertised itself as MAX School, but I couldn’t learn what I wanted there. Then I found out about SF Film School. I had heard the name of the school a lot, but I found out about it through a blog. While I was viewing works at CGland, I was amazed by a work I saw, and when I went to that person’s blog, I found out that he was a student at SF Film School. I also went to a blog where students from the school signed up to receive advice, and I saw the students’ works. It was a blog where students who were still learning received advice from their teachers, and to me, it seemed like a video made by experts. So I went to the website and looked at the portfolios of the students and thought that I could learn what I wanted at this school. My first impression of SF Film School was that it felt professional. If other schools felt light, SF Film School felt solid and professional. When I read the writings of the students, I could feel their passion for doing this work, and I also felt that they had the same thoughts as me when I read the writings. I want to learn all the various fields of VFX. My hope is that you will share a lot of know-how and help me build my skills. I plan to use SF Film School as a stepping stone to achieve my dream. Please take good care of me.
