This is the news of the seminar of Hollywood practitioners. Mr. Chris Yoo is working as a 3D modeling artist at Scanline VFX Studios in Canada. In this seminar, the efficient processing method and performance brought about by the advanced working method from the Hollywood VFX produced by hand in the past to the present are presented. He explained the benefits of , and informed us about the rapidly changing face of VFX in Hollywood. After that, we had portfolio feedback time for SFFS LAB students. Bae Min Ji

In November 2022, the monthly best was selected as the 409th Bae Minji student. In the work Minji Bae is working on, a robot living a repetitive life in a factory breaks the loop that is repeated by a butterfly that flows into it. It is a work that contains the content to go out to the free world. Bae Min-ji says he wants to tell you to commit and see for your portfolio. Kim Hae Sol / Lee Eun Bin

Today, there was a graduation work presentation where two graduates who completed a great portfolio at SF Film School conveyed the production process and know-how to their juniors. Haesol Kim and Eunbin Lee are the main characters. Haesol Kim, a graduate, created a portfolio with a laboratory concept to discover new creatures that have never been seen before. With the theme of the movie 'JOKER', Eunbin Lee, a graduate, created a portfolio containing the toilet and the character of the Joker, where the Joker's change of heart occurs. Both students had time to deliver useful tips to SF Film School students. Peter Choi

Today, a Hollywood practitioner's VFX Workflow and Composite seminar was held. Peter Choi is working at ILM in Canada and is delivering useful information about VFX Workflow and Composite through seminars for SF Film School students. Yeji Jeong and Eunjin Jang participated in the portfolio feedback session of FFS LAB students. The teacher explained one by one what was lacking in the work or where the quality was to be improved, and generously gave useful advice and encouragement to the work. It was a useful time to get a lot of information, from honey tips on overseas employment that many students are curious about, to corporate trends in Hollywood and tips on resumes. The special lecture was prepared with a focus on simple understanding of the principles and easy utilization by practicing various examples using VrayBlendMTL. It was an informative lecture that was highly useful in the work of SF Film School students. The theme of the special lecture was "Simple environment production using UNREAL ENGINE 5 and LIVE LINK", and the lecture was given by teacher Seonwoo Kim. Subin Jeong

The monthly best for September 2022 is the 348th student Jeong Subin. Student Jeong Subin is working on a portfolio that depicts a heavy soldier with various equipment. Haesol Kim, a student who completed our SFFS regular program, was awarded on [The Best Work of the Month]. Haesol Kim is currently making a creature portfolio. Making 3D models for machinery parts in high school inspired him to become a character modeller. He joined SF Film School because he was impressed by the quality of portfolios as he was looking for schools to learn character modelling. He explains that the main character of his work is a creature inspired by a frilled-neck lizard. He said that the best tip to improve the quality of your portfolio is to look up for references and observe them in detail. Once again, we would like to give a round applause to HaeSol Kim for making the Best Work of the Month.

Today, we had a graduation presentation by three graduating students who created amazing work in Busan branch. 'BoGyu Seo' picked 'Harbor and transportation' as the theme, so he created hard surface models, such as trucks, cranes, and airplanes for his portfolio. With a great lighting, it was like watching a professional advertisement done by a corporate. 'WonTaek Oh' created a modelling of 'F-suit' which is a robot from the film, . By putting incredible amount of details on modelling and texture, he could finish his portfolio with amazing quality. On the other hand, 'YunJoo Lee' made her portfolio as the collage of interesting scenes from her favorite film, From detailed sculpting to realistic textures of skin and hair, it was truly an impressive portfolio. Thanks to three graduates and their presentation, our students could learn a lot.

They own a movie production which releases more than eighty films since 1995 and an animation studio. They own the most high end CGI technology in their production and they create high quality contests. Their artworks are fresh and new in style, and they are breaking the limit of technology.

Bomi Tak / Yoonseon Kim

We had a graduation presentation of students’ portfolios from our SFFS LAB. YoonSun Kim’s portfolio had a retro theme and the setting was based in an arcade, and it was impressive that she put multiple shades of vivid lighting harmoniously in a confined place. The detailed texture and colourful lights added realism to the space. BoMi Tak’s portfolio was like an enticing nature documentary. She showed us the details of the small world that the animals live in. The tension between a frog and a firefly in the video was captivating, and the moist skin texture of the frog was definitely fascinating. Many SFFS students joined the presentation both online and offline. Thanks to the students who were eager to share their tips, it was an educational time.

Review of a technical seminar with “Sebastian Schütt”

The lead composite in Imagine Engine Design Inc

Sebastian Schutt is a VFX artist who is currently working as a Lead/ Senior Compositor in Imagine Engine. He joined various VFX productions, such as Avengers series, Star Wars series, Aquan Man, Aladdin, Transformer series, and etc. In this seminar that he specially organized for our SFFS students, he discussed his career experiences, the role of composition in the VFX, and how to expand your career to Hollywood. He worked in many VFX studios in all sizes. By having more than 10 years of working experiences in small to big studios, he gave our students precious advice. He explained the charms of being a compositor and how the composition work is connected to building the workflow with artists in the other VFX parts. It was an educational time listening to realistic advice and fresh stories from a Hollywood VFX artist.

Yoonji Lee

The protagonist of Monthly Best May is Yoonji Lee, a student in the 360th class who has completed the regular course. Yoonji Lee is creating a portfolio of elephants and indigenous peoples. Yoonji Lee, a student, said that she graduated from the Department of Sculpture because she wanted to do special makeup when she was young. It is said that he chose the path of CG to keep pace with 3D technology that can be reported for a long time to save his major. Indigenous peoples and elephants were chosen because they thought they could imagine a variety of stories, including communion with animals, harmony with nature, battles and destruction of nature, and harmony. Yoonji Lee's portfolio tip is to constantly receive 'feedback' from teachers and people around them. Review of a technical seminar with “Manolya Kulkoylu”

The Animator in Industrial Light & Magic studios

Manolya Kulkoylu is an Animation Artist who is currently working in ILM. She joined various VFX productions, such as Maleficent, Lion King, Cats, Fast and Furious, and etc. In this seminar, she introduced VFX animation and its workflow. In further, she elaborated the difference between VFX production and cartoon animation, and the tips and know-hows of training your animation skills. She also kindly shared the references as she was explaining technical terms, so even our students who’ve never learned anything about animation could understand the seminar as well. This seminar was very helpful for students who have been wondering about their workflow and those who are dreaming of expanding their careers overseas.

Today there was a seminar by model artist Chris Yoo at SCANLINE VFX in Canada. He explained step-by-step about the film work system that will change according to the future technological development. Taewan Kim

The monthly best protagonist for March is Kim Tae-wan from the 370th grade. Student Taewan Kim is making a work with a horror concept with the main theme of 'Devil' from 'Constantine 1'. It contains the story of a hospital where life and death coexist, a hospital where there is no life and only death. Taewan Kim, a student who saw the planet Pandora in the movie 'Avatar', thought deeply about CG and was moved to visit the science fiction film school. Taewan Kim said that the most important thing when creating a portfolio is 'continuity', and the next most important thing is reference. A well-planned storyline can save a lot of unnecessary work time, and when searching for references, it is recommended to search not only simple modeling references but also SCENE references. This technical seminar was run by Dennis Müller, who is a Lighting & Compositing Artist in Walt Disney Animation Studios. He joined various VFX productions, such as Bumblebee, Star Wars, Moana, Encanto, Aladdin, and etc. In the previous seminar, he focused on shooting techniques and shot design, but in this seminar, he focused on the technical parts. This seminar was a real-time feedback session, so our students could ask any questions that they had in the world of VFX overseas, and advice that they needed for completing their portfolios. The protagonist of Monthly Best February is Eunbin Lee, a student in the 390th grade. Eunbin Lee, a student, is making a toilet and a character in the movie 'Joker', where the Joker's mood changes. Eunbin Lee, a student, said that she chose a Joker as her portfolio that has a concept but is attracted to the color of the lighting and the overall atmosphere. In this seminar, he explained in detail vfx's shooting style trends, rapidly developing work techniques, and the relationship between artist needs, which were not normally recognized. In addition, the trainees gave feedback on the portfolios of students Jin Jeong-hoon and Lee Yoon-ji. He pointed out the importance of expressing the dragon's skin color more delicately, citing various references as examples. Yoonji Lee, who creates portfolios of elephants and indigenous peoples, also emphasized the importance of detailed texture expression and taught how to improve it. The best student in January is Lim Soo-kyung, the 369th. Lim Soo-kyung worked on a portfolio containing lizards in the chase scene of cars and airplanes. Graduate Doyoung Kim created an environmental portfolio with the motif of a famous tourist destination called Venice in Colmar, France. Kim Jung-bin's work was a portfolio that took advantage of Japan's Kareigawa Station as a motif and made good use of the unique Japanese feel and atmosphere. Seungjun Jeong of SF Film School explained the introduction and usage of the warp projection function through direct examples.
