Interview with Ahreum Kim

The production process followed this order: modeling → texturing → rigging → filming → animation → lighting → rendering → compositing.

The story is about a butterfly flying into a cathedral, landing on a musical score, transforming into a musical instrument, and playing a piece of music.

Before creating the storyboard, it is important to clearly determine which areas you will be working on and understand exactly what each part requires. This can help prevent additional work from arising later in the production process.

In my case, I came up with the ideas for projection, chroma key, and rotoscoping while I was already in the middle of production, rather than planning them beforehand. As a result, I was not able to include the chroma key and rotoscoping work in my main portfolio. Having to work on additional tasks also took up a considerable amount of time.

Since creating a portfolio requires a significant amount of time and effort, it is important to keep working consistently. At first, you might think, “I’m just getting started, so I still have plenty of time,” but by the time you finally get serious about working, it may already be too late.

When you come across something you don't know while working, I think it can be more helpful in the long run to try researching and figuring it out yourself before immediately asking an instructor. It is also beneficial to communicate and work together with the people around you.

And most importantly, make sure to get regular feedback! Even if your instructor is busy and cannot review your work on the scheduled day, you should still make sure to speak with them in person at least once that week. This allows you to make corrections right away and reduces the amount of work that needs to be revised later.

Through this project, I was able to review and apply what I had learned so far.

This was a place where I could learn once again and receive the support I needed to complete a project that I don't think I could have finished on my own. Time seemed to pass incredibly quickly.

At first, after creating the storyboard, I felt overwhelmed and wondered how I was ever going to turn it into a finished project. But now that I have completed it, I feel proud of myself for not giving up, while also feeling that there are still many things I could have done better.

There were certainly days when I wanted to give up, but I am truly grateful to my classmates who always encouraged me and to all the instructors who supported me throughout the process.
