Interview with Jeonghyun Park
The concept behind the project is a curious periscope that goes out to explore the world around it.
The production process followed this order: modeling → rigging → mapping → filming → projection → animation → lighting → rendering → compositing.
I believe it is important to clearly decide which area you want to focus on and build your storyboard around it. In my case, I started with the ambition to try out many different areas, but I regret that I was unable to focus deeply on any particular one.
When you try to cover too many areas, there are often situations where you have to let go of some ideas and compromise as the project progresses. This can easily lower your motivation and consume a lot of time during the revision process. In the end, you may end up with an unfocused result that is neither one thing nor another, so I recommend setting a clear goal before you begin.
Don't be afraid to ask questions. Even if the instructor you happen to make eye contact with is someone you don't know very well, or even if you have never spoken to the students around you before, don't hesitate to ask. Unless they genuinely don't know the answer, they probably won't turn you away. Probably...
As you work, there will be many times when what you learned during class isn't enough to solve a problem. When something unexpected happens, don't give up simply because it doesn't work. Search for solutions and ask for help. I believe that trying to identify and solve a problem on your own when you are stuck is very important. However, if you spend too much time overthinking a problem, you may end up wasting a lot of time on unnecessary trial and error.
There are also many things you can learn from making mistakes.
This was a place where I could painfully experience the gap between expectations and reality. It was a place where my weaknesses and limitations became very clear, which was discouraging at times, but also where I could receive help in improving the areas I was lacking in.
I thought I would feel relieved once the project was completed, but I actually feel quite sad that it is over. My biggest regret is that I wish I had approached the project with a little more planning and organization. I also regret not getting to know the instructors and the students from other classes and years better.
I feel that I am leaving with many valuable lessons and experiences that I gained during my time here.
