Interview iwth Jinyong Park

Hello, my name is Jin-yong Park, and I completed the VFX Regular Course at SF Film School.

I have loved comics and animation since I was young, and my childhood dream was to become a comic artist. However, I eventually realized that I lacked the ability to express the images in my head through drawing, and I had to give up on that dream for a while. As time passed, 3D movies, animations, and games began to become more common, and I started to think that perhaps 3D could help me overcome my limitations and achieve the dream I had always wanted.

Around that time, I happened to discover SF Film School online. I decided to enroll because I was impressed by the well-structured educational system, the experienced instructors, and the way students could study together and build close relationships like a family.

Since I was completely new to 3D, the first few months were challenging. However, with the help of my classmates and instructors, I was able to learn in a much more enjoyable and comfortable environment.

While studying, I had the opportunity to participate in a team project through the recommendation of someone I had met. Throughout the project, we faced various challenges and went through several trial-and-error processes, but I learned a great deal from the experience.

Before starting the project, we set a few goals. We wanted each team member to focus on the area they were interested in and complete the project within a set period of time. One member took responsibility for modeling and texturing, while two others focused on compositing. We planned the storyboard accordingly and began working under the guidance of our instructors.

As the project progressed, we realized that animation was also necessary, so I took responsibility for that part. While working on the project, I found myself enjoying animation much more than compositing. This experience led me to change my career direction from compositing to animation, and I began focusing my studies on becoming an animator.

There were many difficult moments along the way, but I was fortunate to have teammates who helped make up for my weaknesses. The people I met through the team project and the advice I received from my instructors also gave me the motivation to focus more deeply on studying animation. By supporting one another, we were ultimately able to complete our portfolio.

When I first started, I knew absolutely nothing about 3D. After studying at SF Film School for more than a year, I learned a great deal and also met many wonderful people. I believe the experiences and relationships I gained here will continue to be valuable throughout my life.

For those who are just beginning their studies, there may be times when things become difficult or overwhelming. However, you have classmates and instructors around you who can share those challenges with you. Don't hesitate to ask for help or support one another, and most importantly, don't give up halfway through. I hope you stay committed, create great work, and eventually pursue your dreams in the field and company you desire.
