Interview with Jungeun Lee
The production process followed this order: modeling (Maya–ZBrush) → retopology → mapping → rigging → animation → lighting → rendering → editing.
I have always loved animation, so I wanted to create a fun short film similar to a Pixar short. There ended up being more scenes than I initially expected, so I omitted some of the background elements. However, since animation was the main focus of my portfolio, I did not consider this to be a major issue.
I think the most important thing is knowing exactly what kind of work you want to create. As you work, you naturally see the projects created by your classmates and are constantly exposed to impressive work. Without a clear sense of direction, it is easy to be influenced by what others are doing. I recommend identifying exactly what you originally wanted to create, what you want to work on, and what you are most confident in before starting your project.
After completing the training program, I also recommend starting your portfolio when you feel truly ready rather than being influenced by other people. If you enter too early without a clear plan, you may end up wasting a lot of time. Once you have a clear direction, I believe you can work through even the most difficult and challenging parts of the process with greater enjoyment.
It is a place where I was able to learn about many different aspects of production. The instructors understood my individual strengths and style, provided appropriate feedback and guidance, and helped me complete a project that was truly my own.
Seeing my classmates working hard and putting in so much effort also naturally motivated me to work harder. Having instructors who were always there to help whenever I needed them made the process much less intimidating, even though this was my first time creating a portfolio.
These were several months that I do not regret spending either my time or money on. Thanks to the well-organized system and structured environment, I believe it was an ideal place to focus on personal projects.
