Interview with Mijung Kim

Hello, my name is Kim Mijeong, and I am a graduate of the VFX Program.

I first started drawing because I enjoyed art. As I watched more Pixar animated films, I gradually became interested in 3D. This led me to major in 3D Animation at university. However, I soon realized that there were limitations to what I could learn at school, so I decided to join the VFX Program at SF Film School to gain more practical knowledge and experience.

For my portfolio project, I chose to create a turtle because I became fascinated with organic creatures. Since it was my first time working on an organic character, I was quite worried. Fortunately, the senior students at the workshop were incredibly kind and always willing to help, which made it possible for me to keep improving. I am especially grateful to my instructor, who carefully pointed out my weaknesses and guided me through every challenge. Without that support, I would not have come this far.

Because I was working on my university graduation project at the same time, I joined the workshop later than everyone else. Looking back, I sometimes wish I had enrolled earlier so I could have worked on both my portfolio and my graduation project together. However, I believe the most important thing is to finish what you start. Completing a project from beginning to end teaches you far more than leaving it unfinished.

Of course, it would be great if everything turned out perfectly from the beginning, but even if it's a simple project, finishing it will help you improve tremendously on your next one. That is why I recommend creating something from start to finish as soon as you begin the program. If you stay committed and never give up, I truly believe you will achieve great results.
