Interview with Seongwon Lee

Hello, my name is Seongwon Lee, and I recently completed the Animation Program. I’m very happy to have the opportunity to complete my work and share my story through this interview.

I majored in Business Administration and was originally planning to pursue a career in marketing. Now, however, I’m on my way to becoming an artist. It took a great deal of thought and courage to make that decision. Even before joining SF Film School, I hesitated over and over again, so I’m proud to be leaving with such valuable knowledge and guidance.

I think it would be fair to say that watching Transformers completely opened my eyes. I had been preparing for a career in advertising planning, but I felt that I had a slightly stronger sense of aesthetics and directing than those around me. While exploring various fields of filmmaking, starting with production design, I came across SF Film School. That was when I decided to take the leap and pursue art myself.

I had previously directed a small theater production, and I was already familiar with editing storyboards, simple videos, and music for advertising projects. Because of that, the process of creating my work was not unbearably difficult or overwhelming. What I realized, however, is that it’s not necessarily about what you do or how you do it, but rather who you do it with.

Over the long period I spent learning and growing together with my workshop classmates, I gained so many valuable experiences. It was a warm and supportive time, and at times, an incredibly passionate one as well. Although I had a home in Seoul, living in the workshop was extremely beneficial—not only because it made working more efficient, but also because I was able to build meaningful relationships and connections with others.

I gained truly valuable knowledge and experience, and, more importantly, I met wonderful people. It was such a meaningful period of my life that I would gladly go back and experience it all over again.

I hope everyone continues to work hard and creates great projects.
