Interview with Soyoung Kim

From the beginning of my time at the school, I wanted to create natural elements rather than man-made objects for my portfolio.

The final result turned out slightly different from my original storyboard, but after discussing it with my instructor, I think the changes actually made the project better.

The production process was modeling → texturing → surface detailing → animation → lighting → compositing.

Before starting my portfolio, I had already done some modeling practice with a whale and an elephant. Since I needed to return to school, I initially planned to finish my portfolio before March. However, I think I started to lose momentum once I moved on to the animation stage.

I believe that maintaining a consistent pace throughout the portfolio process is important, as it can help improve the quality of the final result while also reducing the overall production time.

I also think it is important to decide which department or field you want to pursue before starting your portfolio. This allows you to highlight your strengths more effectively through your work.

One thing I regret is that I did not take detailed enough notes during classes. I think organizing and reviewing what you learn in class can be extremely helpful once you begin working on your portfolio.

This was a place where I could receive objective feedback and improve my work to make it more realistic. I enjoy laughing and chatting when I'm with friends, but thanks to the people around me at the workshop, I was able to stay focused and push myself to work harder instead of getting too distracted.
