Interview with Younghun Ahn

I started this project with the goal of becoming a compositor.

The production process followed this order: storyboard → pre-shoot → filming → modeling → shading → roto → compositing.

The two areas I focused on most were filming and compositing. Since I wanted to minimize the use of online assets, I filmed the footage using a Canon 5D Mark II at a resolution of 1920 × 1080.

One reason I chose the 5D was that its manual exposure allowed me to maintain consistent exposure even when changing locations. I also wanted to achieve greater control over focus using a manual lens. In addition, because it is a full-frame camera, I could use the camera's field of view without additional cropping.

For the source footage, I divided the project into individual scenes and considered what elements would be needed for each one. I also used a tripod and tried to maintain as consistent an angle as possible.

Although every part of the process is important, I believe the most important thing is to decide which area you want to pursue and plan your portfolio around it. In my case, I spent a lot of time struggling because I did not know exactly what elements were required for the field I wanted to pursue. I think it is important to learn and understand those requirements through discussions with your instructors.

Since studying 3D involves such a broad range of subjects, I believe continuous self-development is essential. Since most students are ultimately preparing for employment, I think it is best to create a portfolio that makes the most of your strengths and accumulated experience while working as efficiently as possible.

This was a place that helped me turn the vague information in my head into something I could actually understand. There is a great deal of information available online and through tutorials, but in my case, I could not fully understand everything on my own. Through guidance and learning, I was able to fill in the areas where I was lacking.

The feedback sessions also allowed me to identify and correct weaknesses and details that were easy to overlook.

It is a place where you can find answers when you get stuck while studying or working on a project.
