INTERVIEW:
Hello. This is Jung Han Joo, and I just graduated SFFS.
I always loved watching movie, so I had a dream of joining a film production since I was young.
Trying out even just for once is more important than looking at other people's practise for a dozen times. And have a pride and faith in your artwork.
I think I still have a lot to learn, so I will keep on learning.
Because I was going to college at the same time I was enrolled in SFFS, I had to schedule my time to join lectures from SFFS. I was an engineering student, so I already had a lot on my hands. I remember that I was very exhausted during exam weeks, but I preferred to stay busy. I remember the time that I was shivering in cold as I was doing film shoot for my portfolio during last winter. It was a memorable moment.
Well, it is embarrassing to say that mine is a portfolio. I am fascinated in particles and dynamics, so I worked by referencing artworks that I found interesting. There were unexpected challenges as I was working on my portfolio, and the lessons that I learned from solving them are priceless.
I didn't have a set "work time". I worked when I felt like it.
After I graduated SFFS, I got a job in MOFAC Studio and my part is F. I am mainly using Maya and Houdini, and I am thinking of joining FX part in film production in the future. Currently I moved my career to Moving Picture Company in the United Kingdom. MPC is a CGI production company that participates popular Hollywood film productions such as The Chronicles of Narnia.
Well, I don't think I am in the position to say a lot of words... but I would like to say these: Collect a lot of references as much as possible and don't give up on your dream. Don't lose your passion and have faith in your work. Be a welcoming hand to a colleague sitting right besides you. Be a support to each other.
Personally, I only thought about 3D when I first learned about CGI, but as I was researching about the field, I realized that composition and adjusting color hues are also important. So I was looking for a VFX school that would teach all the aspects of VFX, and I found SFFS. I loved how the school has a home-like atmosphere. Everyone is like a family here. I loved my teachers for giving me precious advice and pointing out the parts that I misunderstood.
