Interview with Mira Kim

1.Please introduce yourself.

Hello. My name is Mira Kim, and I completed the VFX Professional Program at SF Film School.

2.What inspired you to become interested in Computer Graphics?

While majoring in Visual Design at university, I wanted to study computer graphics in greater depth. As I watched more films that relied heavily on CG each year, I became increasingly determined to pursue a career in visual effects.

3.Do you have any personal tips or know-how for learning CG?

Although everything made sense during class, I often forgot what I had learned afterward, so taking detailed notes was very important. I also learned a great deal by asking my classmates and senior students for advice. Most importantly, whenever I ran into a problem, asking my instructors questions usually helped me solve it right away. Another thing our manager emphasized was the importance of collecting reference materials, and I found that to be extremely helpful throughout the production process.

4.What are your future plans?

Since I've just started my professional career, I believe the most important thing is to keep learning. I also want to continue developing my skills through self-improvement. My goal is to build solid experience, move on to even better opportunities, and eventually work overseas.

5.Do you have any memorable experiences during your training?

One of my favorite memories is spending the summer working with my classmates at the SF Film Research Center while enduring the heat together. Whenever we became exhausted, we would go up to the rooftop lawn, relax, and spend time together without worrying about our projects. Those moments remain some of my happiest memories from school.

6.Please tell us about your personal project.

My project was inspired by an overseas commercial, and both the 2D and 3D work proved to be quite challenging. While the modeling process wasn't too difficult, I struggled with animation and camera tracking. Creating natural-looking dog animation was especially challenging. The project is still in progress, so balancing it with my job has been difficult, but my goal is to complete it no matter what.

7.How many hours did you work on average each day?

On average, I worked about three to four hours a day, but during periods of late-night production I often worked for more than six hours. Since so much time is spent sitting in front of a computer, maintaining your physical health is very important. Regular exercise is essential.

8.Please introduce your company and your current role.

I joined Inworks, a post-production company specializing in editing. The studio mainly handles promotional videos, commercials, and music videos. My responsibilities include both video editing and CG production.

9.What advice would you give to SF Film School students?

Don't feel like you have to solve every problem on your own. Whenever you face difficult challenges, your classmates and instructors are always willing to help. Their support will keep you moving forward, so don't become discouraged. Keep asking questions, keep learning, and continue working hard until the end.

10.Why did you choose SF Film School, and what do you think is its greatest strength?
Looking back, what I remember most is the time I spent with my classmates and the instructors who supported us from the very beginning of the program. Unlike many other academies where classes simply end when the lesson is over, SF Film School had a warm, family-like atmosphere. Both during and outside of class, everyone encouraged one another, and even the most difficult days of working on our portfolios have become enjoyable memories.
