Interview with Yongmoon Jeon

Hello. My name is Yongmoon Jeon, and I completed the VFX Professional Program at SF Film School.

I've always loved sports, especially team sports like basketball and soccer. Growing up, I spent much more time playing sports than studying because my dream was to become a professional athlete. At different times, I wanted to be a baseball player, a soccer player, or a basketball player. Unfortunately, my family opposed that path, so I had to give up those dreams. I'm usually a quiet person, but once I get to know people, I become very talkative and enjoy joking around. Looking back, I'm proud that I was able to successfully complete the VFX program at SF Film School.

My interest in computer graphics began through playing computer games. While playing games, I often found myself thinking, "I'd love to create games like this someday." That curiosity eventually led me to computer graphics. I searched online, asked people around me for advice, and ultimately chose SF Film School.

In fact, I had known about SF Film School even before my military service and had attended a few classes. However, at that time I wasn't mentally prepared to study seriously because I knew I would soon be enlisting. After completing my military service, I often remembered my former classmates and the professional training I had experienced at SF Film School. When I turned twenty-nine, I decided it was finally time to commit myself fully and returned to the school.

Ironically, I had once been one of the youngest students in my class, but when I came back, I found myself among the older students. That made me realize how much time had passed and motivated me to work even harder. Since I was studying while working full-time, I wasn't able to share as many experiences with my classmates as they did, which is probably my only regret.

For my portfolio, I recreated the famous Pepsi Man commercial. I remembered how entertaining those commercials had been and wondered what it would look like if the story took place in Korea instead of overseas. My younger brother acted in the live-action footage, and the concept featured Pepsi Man running toward him while he was playing basketball on a hot summer day. The most difficult part of the project was matching the lighting between the live-action footage and the CG elements. Because I was balancing work and study, I had to make progress whenever I could find spare time.

I currently work for a Christian broadcasting station, where I'm responsible for creating CG content such as program titles, subtitles, promotional videos, and broadcast commercials. In the future, I hope to continue gaining experience by producing a wide variety of video content. I also lead the media team at my church, and I'd like to apply everything I've learned there as well.

To anyone considering a career in VFX, my advice is simple: begin with a strong commitment and never give up, no matter how difficult things become. There will be many moments when you'll feel stuck or question whether you're capable of succeeding. During those times, don't be afraid, and don't become impatient. Your skills won't improve overnight.

Think about your own height. When you were growing up, you couldn't see yourself getting taller day by day, but over time the difference became obvious. Learning CG is much the same. If you continue studying and practicing consistently, one day you'll look back and realize just how much you've grown.

Now that you've chosen SF Film School, trust the school, trust your instructors, and trust your classmates. Take your time, keep moving forward step by step, and you'll eventually see your own progress. I wish you all the very best on your journey.
