Interview with Nahyun Kim
This portfolio tells the story of a curious bee that is fascinated by a flower and approaches it, only to eventually be eaten.
My target position is a 3D modeler, and the production process followed this order: storyboard → modeling → texturing → rigging → filming → tracking → animation → lighting → rendering → compositing.
For those who are still taking the regular courses, I strongly recommend paying close attention in class and taking thorough notes. Reviewing what you learned after class is also extremely important. Since you are learning complex software, it is easy to forget what you have learned without regular review. In my case, once I started working on my portfolio, I found myself countless times wishing that I had paid more attention during the regular classes.
When you encounter something you don't know, I recommend trying to solve it on your own first, but I don't think you should spend too much time struggling with the same problem. There are mentors in the lab, so don't hesitate to ask them for help when you need it.
When planning your portfolio, I also believe it is most important to structure it around the position you are applying for. Rather than working completely alone, if you have classmates from the same class working in the lab, I recommend giving each other feedback as you work. Encouraging one another can help you work faster and stay motivated throughout the process.
Whenever I became tired of working, seeing other people in the lab working hard gave me the motivation to keep going. I never imagined that it would take me an entire year to complete my portfolio.
By the middle of the production, I sometimes felt completely overwhelmed. After returning to school, I had to work on both my graduation project and portfolio at the same time, which caused a lot of stress. At times, it felt like I would never finish the project. But now that it is finally completed, I feel relieved, while also experiencing a strange mix of emotions.
I would like to sincerely thank all the instructors who encouraged me and gave me the strength to keep working hard whenever things became difficult.
